On September 26th, Northern Lights will celebrate that the CO2 receiving facilities in Øygarden are completed and ready to receive CO2 from industrial emitters across Europe. This marks a significant milestone for Northern Lights and the CCS industry, and we welcome the inhabitants of Øygarden and the Bergen region to join us on this celebratory day.

  • When: Thursday 26th of September from 15:30-19:00
  • Where: Northern Lights facilities, Ljøsøyvegen 97, 5337 Rong

“With support from the Norwegian government, we are demonstrating that developing a CCS chain is viable. We want to extend our gratitude to everyone involved in making Northern Lights a reality. The support of our host municipality Øygarden has been an important success factor and we look forward to welcoming the local community to the completed facilities”, says Managing Director Tim Heijn.

Mayor of Øygarden municipality, Tom Georg Indrevik, said to the local newspaper Vestnytt that; “This is truly industrial history, both for Øygarden and the world. For the first time, a full-scale carbon storage facility is opening. And it’s happening right here, in Øygarden”.

The “Northern Lights Celebration: Ready for CO2” will take place in the afternoon of September 26th. Earlier that day, Northern Lights will host its annual business summit with the theme “Scaling CCS for the future”. The conference program will be live streamed for an online audience.
