Northern Phoenix delivered
December 2, 2025
Northern Lights is pleased to announce that our third CO₂ transport ship, Northern Phoenix, has been delivered from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. (DSOC) in Dalian, China. The ship’s name reflects our mission and long-term societal role, in line with Northern Pioneer and Northern Pathfinder.
Northern Phoenix will conduct testing and optimisation of its energy-saving devices during the repositioning voyage from China to Norway. Once arrived, the vessel will start mechanical commissioning activities at the receiving terminal in Øygarden. Interface training between ship and shore teams will also take place to ensure a seamless and safe transition into the operational phase.
Northern Phoenix is dedicated to transporting CO₂ from Yara and will play a key role in enabling the start of commercial operations. A fourth ship will follow in 2026, expanding our fleet capacity as new customers, including Stockholm Exergi, come online.
This delivery marks another significant milestone in building the world’s largest dedicated CO₂ shipping fleet and demonstrates Northern Lights’ commitment to establishing a reliable cross-border value chain to support Europe’s decarbonisation goals. In addition, the Northern Lights project has now surpassed 3 million LTI-free (Lost Time Injury) manhours, underscoring our strong focus on safety throughout construction and commissioning.
